8226; Your editorial 8216;Small and Unsafe8217; April 2 on the recent helicopter crash near Saharanpur that took the lives of Haryana ministers O.P. Jindal and Surinder Singh was timely. Most civil helicopters in India are owned by business magnates and powerful politicians, who tend to treat them like their cars. The fact that a pilot who is licensed to fly a Russian Mi-18 military helicopter cannot fly a light helicopter without authorised conversion is not understood by these owners. At their own peril.

Eternal pursuits

8226; Your article on the Indian Institute of Science 8216;Sci Finance8217;, April 3 made wonderful reading. The Union government8217;s grant of Rs 100 crore will surely go a long way in ensuring that other forms of funding and recognition fellow, for IISc as well as our other premier institutes. IISc is the lasting legacy of one the greatest visionaries of modern India, Jamsetji Tata. As an alumnus of the institute, I feel proud.

Irrational act

8226; I can8217;t understand why Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa and her government are trying to run down the sincere efforts of a person who voluntarily helped the tsunami victims 8216;Amma calls Oberoi bluff, what relief, just a stunt8217;, IE, April 5. Obviously, Oberoi does not own land or have the kind of financial resources that a government has. I don8217;t think he was trying to compete with the government.

In Gandhi8217;s Gujarat

8226; A bold and realistic article 8216;Who8217;s afraid of Narendra Modi?8217;, IE, April 4. None but the biased will say it is biased. Modi draws his nourishment from the soil that has been deeply 8220;soiled8221; by the retrograde neo-Hindu right wing. His muscular utterances have the support of these neo-Hindus who are not familiar with Hinduism. Hence, as rightly observed by Sagarika Ghose, the timidity of his detractors within the BJP to touch him. Gujarat has produced a Gandhi as also his antidote!

8226; It is just amazing that writers like these conveniently forget the main cause of the riot. It is people like these who conveniently forget the damage the Congress has caused to the nation, and the Leftists to West Bengal and Kerala.

Cheque-mated

8226; The only question I have is, can8217;t the BCCI give the winners of the Ranji Trophy the bigger cheque 8216;They believe in winning, not whining8217;, IE, April 4? The cricket board needs to manage cricket in India in a better manner.
