
HYDERABAD, August 27: Punjab8217;s powerlifters hogged the limelight when they created two new National record in 110 kg category for men in the 26th Senior National Powerlifting Championship on the final day.
However, it was international IS Ubee of Postal Department who was the unsung hero of the day when he won his 15th consecutive national title.
CHAMPION RETIRES: Ubee who announced his retirement, won the gold in the 110 kg class with a total of 807.5 kg. Rashpal Singh of Punjab created a new record in the bench press with a lift of 203 kg. The old mark was 202.5 kg in his name. Manjeet Singh set a record in the dead lift with 325 kgs against the old mark of Ubee which was 312.5 kg.
Kerala8217;s Rajith Mohan Das, with a total lift of 780 kgs, won the grand double. Andhra Pradesh won another gold medal when B Tejaseani with a total lift of 402.5 kg won the gold in 60kg class while Jamuna Gurung of Uttar Pradesh and Renna Bai of Tamil Nadu won the silver and bronze.
In the 67.5 kg, it was Tapasi Datta of Delhi who clinched the gold with a total lift of 435 kg as Geeta Dongre of Madhya Pradesh and KN Shylaja of Karnataka took the silver and bronze medal respectively.
