VADODARA, Oct 15: Former Surat mayor and chairman of Municipal Finance Board Fakirbhai Chauhan on Thursday inaugurated a training programme for municipal corporation employees in day-to-day effective functioning.

A large number of civic employees from the State are attending the programme organised by the All India Institute of Local Self-Government and Gujarat Municipal Finance Board.

Dwelling on the need for training, Chauhan said it certainly helped in better performance. At a time when financial burden is increasing there is all the more need that training is imparted at regular intervals, he added.

In her address, Mayor Bharati Vyas said the employees should always have willingness to learn from experts. She advised employees to behave politely with the citizens. Institute chairman Dr Jatin Modi also spoke.

Pager Service: In a bid to redress people8217;s grievances effectively, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation has tied up with Pagelink, a paging service company.

According to an official release, the residents will have to dial 9602 to lodge complaints pertaining to drainage, streetlight, water, storm water drains, contaminated water, sanitation, lifting dead animals and road related problems which will be passed on to respective ward offices. Complaints can be lodged any time during the day. The release claimed that the officers would try and ensure to redress the grievances at the earliest. The computerised list of complaints will be checked by the Municipal Commissioner or officer nominated by him.

Cracker Show: A show of fire crackers will be held at the Polo Grounds on October 17, on the occasion of Dhanterash at 7 p.m.

A VMC spokesman said smart electrical colours, chinese items, white star, golden star, top in top and other items will be lit.

Photo contest: The VMC and the Vadodara Photographers Association have jointly organised a photography contest 8220;Diwali parva8221; on the occasion of Diwali.

The participants will have to submit photographs related to Rangoli, get-togethers, illumination, decoration and fire crackers. Selected 50 photographs will be given a cash prize of Rs 151 each. However, later the VMC will own the photographs.

The VMC will give Rs 2,501 as first prize, Rs 1,501 to second prize winner and Rs 1,001 to third prize winners and three consolation prizes of Rs 351 each.
