AMRITSAR, March 28: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur today decided to set up an inquiry into allegations of corruption and irregularities against her predecessor Gurcharan Singh Tohra on a demand by a section of SGPC members.

Jagir Kaur announced the decision to mediapersons after a meeting of the SGPC8217;s general house, during which Jagir Kaur carried out an administrative reshuffle.

A number of the 50-odd members attending the meeting asked the SGPC president to order an inquiry against Tohra. Jagir Kaur asked all the SGPC members to submit their allegations against Tohra in writing so as to help her prepare a chargesheet against the former SGPC chief. 8220;We will proceed against Tohra after I get the complaints in writing,8221; she told reporters.Asked about the thin attendance at the meeting, Jagir Kaur said a majority of the members were busy with the tercentenary celebrations. Interestingly, today8217;s meeting was called in connection with the celebrations.

Amongthose conspicuous by their absence were senior vice-president Balbir Singh Pannu, who was a frontrunner in the race to appoint Tohra8217;s successor. The Badal group in the SGPC general house claimed the support of about 140 members.

Jagir Kaur announced that the SGPC would be celebrating the Khalsa tercentenary with the Punjab Government. There should be no confrontation at Anandpur Sahib, she said, appealing to everyone to join hands with Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in making the celebrations a success.Noone would be prevented from taking part in the celebrations being organised by the Government or addressing the public from the stage, which would be shared by prominent personalities at Anandpur Sahib during the tercentenary, she said.

Asked about Tohra8217;s allegations that the Sant Samaj faction backing suspended8217; Akal Takht Jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh had not been allotted land at Anandpur Sahib for the tercentenary celebrations, Jagir Kaur said she had not received any application in this regard.
