Sena supremo Bal Thackeray was on a visit here on Monday. It was amusing to watch the KDMC bend over backwards to prove that things are more than hunky dory in Kalyan.
It undertook a massive cosmetic touch-up campaign. Roads were swept clean, road-dividers washed and the bai cha puthla, which had been rudely defaced with film posters, was also given a thorough wash8230; something which had not been done for ages. What however took the cake was the way the huge pits dug along the road from the Roshan petrol pump to the Birla College were hurriedly filled up on Monday morning.
Dug around eight months ago to build drainage pipes the holes were abandoned without any notice. Nothing was done inspite of a number of complaints. Maybe the KDMC was waiting for an auspicious occasion like a VVIP8217;s visit to do the needful. As for the local residents they can take a respite till some wisecrack at the KDMC reminds his seniors of the drainage pits again.Status quon When asked about the major changes he noticed since Shivshahi took over the KDMC 19 months ago, Thackeray was very canidid.

The civic administration has issued employment notices in various newspapers.
