SURAT, Dec 8: The three-day district-level science fair, Jawaharlal Nehru Bal Vigyan Mela, will be held in the city from December 11. The fair, 35th in the series, to be organised at Swami Atmanand Saraswati Vidhya School, Varachha Road, will be inaugurated by Mayor Savita Sharda at 6.30 am.

Convenor of the fair, Hintendra Chudawala who is also the Chairman of the SMC School Board said in a press conference that like in the last two years, Nagar Prathamik Shikshan Samiti was organising this unique fair in collaboration with Zila Vigyan Madhyast Mandal, Zila Panchayat Shikshan Samiti, Zila Shikshan Samiti and Talim Bhavan.

The topic for the fair, Science, Technology and Environment8217;, chosen by the Delhi-based NCERT, has been divided into six divisions. While the competition will cover all subjects, students have already started preparing charts, projects, depicting various themes related to science under the guidance of their teachers.

The winner of the first prize in this fair, in which 141 schools would take part, will be selected for the state-level science fair to be held later this month at Rajkot. Six best pieces of work selected at the state-level science fair would be sent for the national-level science fair.

While GACL Chairman C R Patil would be the chief guest at the inaugural function, Deputy Mayor Snehlata Chauhan, Swami Atmanand Saraswati Vidya School Principal Dr Bankimbhai Pathak, Standing Committee Chairman Ajay Choksi, Leader of House Natu Soma Patel, MLA North Dheerubhai Gajera would also remain present.

Zila Panchayat president Harshadbhai Chaudhary will be the chief guest for valedictory function at 2 pm on December 13. Prominent diamond merchant and State BJP vice-president Jivraj Dharukawala will give away the prizes.

Co-ordinator of the fair Rajesh Desai, Vigyan Bhavan Samiti convenor Praveenbhai Mali, Chief of the Vigyan Madhyast Mandal Deepakbhai Basi, Principal of the Zila Shikshan Talim Bhavan T S Joshi, District Education Officer Natwarsinh Parmar were present at the present conference.
