The Supreme Court has ordered former MP Pappu Yadav, alias Rajesh Ranjan, to return directly to Beur jail after his long stay in the Patna Medical College Hospital for extensive treatment for his 8216;8216;obesity8217;8217; and 8216;8216;hypertension8217;8217;. The court observed that Yadav, charged with murder in the Ajit Sarkar case, had 8216;8216;taken many a court for a ride8217;8217;.

Indeed when it comes to heading straight to hospitals and nursing homes every time an arrest warrant shows up at the doorstep, none are more au fait with unhealthy legal practices than Indian MPs who are prone to fall ill at the drop of a handcuff. Presenting some of the notoriously indisposed.

Pappu Yadav
The rotund Rajesh Ranjan was once an Independent MP from Purnea, but lost the last elections on Ram Vilas Paswan8217;s Lok Janshakti ticket. He8217;s been charged with kidnappings and murder 8212; the Ajit Sarkar murder case. Pappu8217;s routinely checked himself into various hospitals, including AIIMS, to escape the arm of the law.

Suraj Bhan Singh
The Lok Janshakti MP from Baliya Bagusarai is charged with offences of murder as well as under the Arms Act. He was once an Independent MLA and is widely reputed to be the don of his constituency. He not only frequents hospitals but when in jail ran it like his own private empire with staff doubling as his personal care-givers.

Md Shahabuddin
Charged with murder, extortion and kidnappings, there are 38 cases against Shahabuddin, an MP of the ruling RJD of Bihar. He8217;s been charge-sheeted in 26 cases, including in the murder of CPIM-L leader Munna Chaudhary. Shahabuddin obtained clearance from a fast-track court to take his oath as Lok Sabha MP and to attend the Budget session. But the Patna High Court has now directed the government to shift Shahabuddin from Siwan Jail Hospital and put him behind bars. Clearly, the court has decided that Shahabuddin8217;s health is better cured by a prison term than a hospital bed.
