ROHTAK, June 9: The talks between striking nurses and the Haryana governement failed today, in Chandigarh, with both sides sticking to their guns, it was authoritatively learnt.

Meanwhile, the nurses took out a procession here. They shouted anti-government slogans and burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Bansi Lal.

The condition of general-secretary of Nurses8217; Association Santosh Hooda and Raj Taneja who are on fast-unto-death has deteriorated further, president of the association Suman Yadav said. However, another nurse Anita was feeling better, she said.

It may be recalled that all the three leaders who were on fast-unto-death were forcibly taken to the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital by the police, on Sunday. Another group consisting of two nurses 8212; Santosh Rana and Rajwanti 8212; started their fast-unto-death here yesterday. The nurses have been observing strike since May 21, last, to demand hike in pay-scales and allowances.

Suman Yadav claimed that nurses8217; strike was complete in Haryana. She said that 98 per cent of the nurses were on strike in the state. She said she had visited Bhiwani, Mahendargarh, Ambala, Panipat and was happy that the morale of the striking nurses was quite high. They said they were determined to get their demands fullfilled.

JIND: The indefinite strike of nurses, which entered its 10th day today has paralysed the working of Civil Hospital. As many as 27 nurses of the hospital are on strike and the admission of patients in the hospital had come down to 50 per cent. Medical Superintendent Navneet Kulsherestha said that the indoor patients were facing great hardships and serious patients were being shifted to Medical College Hospital, Rohtak, causing difficulty to their family members, many attending persons opined that the government should negotiate with the nurses and should not pay with the health of patients.

KURUKSHETRA: Nearly 100 agitating nurses took over a protest march in the city to press for their demands. they raised slogans against ESMA and anti-nurse stand of the Haryana government. District president Veena Kaushik told that their indefinite strike entered its ninth day today. Later, the striking nurses presented a memorandum, consisting the charter of demands, to Deputy Commissioner, Kurukshetra, T. V. S. N. Prasad.
