Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri box office collection day 4: Lowest Kartik Aaryan opening weekend in 8 years at Rs 23.75 cr, earns one-fifth of Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar
Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri (TMMTMTTM) worldwide box office collection day 4: On its first Sunday, Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday's romantic comedy earned only one-fifth of what Ranveer Singh's Dhurandhar made on its 24th day.
Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri box office collection day 4: Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday's film earns Rs 23.75 crore.
Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri (TMMTMTTM) box office collection day 4: Sameer Vidhwans’ romantic comedy Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, starring Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday, isn’t able to sustain itself in the face of the box office juggernaut that is Aditya Dhar’s period spy thriller Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh. The rom-com even witnessed a marginal dip on its first Sunday, when most films usually register their highest grossing days.
Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri box office collection
On Sunday (day 4), Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri earned Rs 5.25 crore, which was equal to its Friday (day 2) earnings. It registered a minor increase on Saturday (day 3) at Rs 5.50 crore, but has shown a downward trend again. Its highest grossing day remains its opening day of Thursday at Rs 7.75 crore, thanks to the occasion of Christmas.
As per Sacnilk, the current box office collection of Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri in India after four days stands at Rs 23.75 crore. This extended opening weekend figure isn’t expected to go much higher on its first Monday (day 5), given the film’s current trajectory. In just four days, the film will also face fresh competition from Sriram Raghavan’s period military drama Ikkis, starring Agastya Nanda.
Dhurandhar dominates
But Ikkis isn’t the competition Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri should be worried out. Its performance has been majorly curtailed by the box office dominance of Dhurandhar. For instance, on Sunday, the rom-com’s fourth day at the domestic box office, it earned less than one-fifth of what Dhurandhar did on the same day — Rs 22.25 crore — which is its 24th day at the domestic box office.
Kartik’s lowest opening in eight years
The box office performance of Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri has paled in comparison to not only Dhurandhar, but also Kartik and Sameer’s previous hit collaboration — Satyaprem Ki Katha. The 2023 romantic drama, also starring Kiara Advani, earned in its first three days what the new rom-com has garnered in four days. The extended opening weekend of the former went up to Rs 34.10 crore at the domestic box office.
Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri is also no match to Kartik’s last release, Anees Bazmee’s horror comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 last year, which earned Rs 35.50 crore in just its opening day of Diwali, Rs 12 crore more than what his rom-com has earned in its extended opening weekend. Even Kartik’s sports drama Chandu Champion from last year, helmed by Kabir Khan, earned Rs 26.50 crore in its first four days at the domestic box office, almost Rs 3 crore more than what his new film has earned in the same time frame.
Even Kartik’s last box office failure, Rohit Dhawan’s 2023 action film Shehzada, earned Rs 24.50 crore, a few lakhs more than what Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri has made in the same period of its first four days at the domestic box office. His 2020 romantic drama Love Aaj Kal, directed by Imtiaz Ali, also earned more at Rs 33.10 crore in the same time frame.
Thus, that makes Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri the lowest domestic box office opening for Kartik since his 2017 release, Ashwini Dhir’s comedy Guest iin London, which earned Rs 8.50 crore in its first four days at the domestic box office. So, this is Kartik’s lowest opening in eight years.
Even for Ananya Panday, the extended opening weekend of Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri is much lower than her other release this year, Karan Singh Tyagi’s period courtroom drama Kesari: Chapter 2. The film, also backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and headlined by Akshay Kumar, earned Rs 34 crore in its first four days at the domestic box office.
Her 2019 release Dream Girl 2, directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa and starring Ayushmann Khurrana, earned Rs 46.50 crore, almost double of Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri in its first four days at the domestic box office. Ananya’s lowest opening before the Kartik Aaryan-rom com was Rs 13.85, the first four-day earnings from the Hindi version of Puri Jagganadh’s 2022 action comedy Liger, headlined by Vijay Deverakonda.
Even Kartik and Ananya’s last team-up — Mudassar Aziz’s rom-com Pati Patni Aur Woh (2019) — earned Rs 42.50 crore, around Rs 19 crore more than what their new release Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri made in its first four days at the domestic box office. Johar should’ve probably taken a cue from Ikkis producer, Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, and pushed the release date of his film at least by a week to dilute the threat that is Dhurandhar.
