Officials said the drill was conducted in view of the recent tragic incident in Goa that claimed several lives, with the aim of ensuring that Mohali is fully prepared to handle any such emergency situations.
Ahead of the New Year celebrations and taking lessons from the recent tragic incident in Goa, the Mohali police Sunday conducted a large-scale mock drill at Bestech Mall in Phase 11 to ensure public safety and emergency preparedness.
The exercise was carried out under the leadership of SP (City) Dilpreet Singh and the supervision of DSP (City-2) Harsimrat Singh Bal, with the participation of around 80 police personnel, including teams from the Punjab Police Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS).
During the mock drill, Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), explosive detection teams, and fire brigade personnel were deployed on the spot to simulate emergency response measures. The primary objective of the drill was to assess quick response mechanisms and rescue operations in the event of any untoward incident.
An awareness programme was also conducted as part of the exercise. Mall employees, food court staff, chefs and personnel deployed at key locations were briefed in detail on fire safety measures and emergency evacuation procedures. They were informed about the importance of maintaining calm during emergencies, safely evacuating people, and promptly alerting the police and fire services.
