DEO issues directive on poll literature
Collector and District Election Officer Sangeeta Singh has issued a directive stating that all pamphlets and handbills printed for canvassing must have the name and address of the publisher or printer on them.

In addition, candidates will have to produce such handbills in the office of the district magistrate before circulating them, she said, quoting directives of the Election Commission of India. Any handbill other than in one’s handwriting will be considered as pamphlets and due action will be taken, the election officer warned.

It has been stated earlier that no handbills or posters will be allowed to be stuck on to private property and that offenders are liable to six months’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2000.
