West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee WBPCC leader Subrata Mukherjee was removed from his post of official spokesperson for the party on Thursday.
This came after Mukherjee had participated in a Trinamool Congress rally in Singur last Tuesday, where he had joined party chief Mamata Banerjee on the dais. Mukherjee had joined the anti-land acquisition rally, saying he supported the movement for return of land to unwilling farmers.
According to sources in the Congress, WBPCC president Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi was miffed with Mukherjee8217;s action. On the day he attended the rally, Dasmunsi had said Mukherjee had participated in the rally on his own. 8220;The state Congress has nothing to do with it,8221; Dasmunsi had stated.
Mukherjee may be replaced by Pradip Bhattacharya, who has close relations with senior party leader Pranab Mukherjee, said a source.
Mukherjee8217;s removal could prompt him to join Trinamool again. Although he had started out as a Congressman, he had defected to the Trinamool and had served as the mayor of Kolkata. Later, he had returned to the Congress.
