MUMBAI, May 22: The Bharatiya Suraksha Rakshak Union 8211; a union of the security guards 8211; has threatened to launch an agitation over the recent introduction of domicile certificates for private security guards in Maharashtra.

The state government now wants the private security guards to produce domicile certificates. Incidentally, majority of the security guards are from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Kerala. Even Maharashtrian candidates are required to produce domicile, as they feel that some of them may be from the Karnataka border, alleged B C Jha, general secretary of the union.

Talking to reporters while expressing concern over the state of security in Maharashtra, he said, it is surprising that the state home department is keeping quiet over a matter of internal security, particularly when anti-national agencies and ISI is active. Jha said that even after 17 years of the passing of the Security Guards Act of 1981, the fate of over one lakh security guards in Mumbai and adjoining Thane district isdeplorable due to the utter negligence of authorities.
