Naxalites killed in encounter
HYDERABAD: Two Naxalites of the banned People’s War Group (PWG) were killed in an encounter with police at Urlaguda forest area in Adilabad district of Andhra pradesh early on Thursday, police said here.

A special police party on routine combing operations was fired upon by a group of Naxals stationed in the area. In the retaliatory firing, two unidentified ultras belonging to Mangi Dalam were killed.

Karnataka to form water users’ co-ops
BANGALORE: The Karnataka Government on Thursday announced its decision to form 2,600 water users cooperative societies under an action plan designed to empower farmers to manage and maintain irrigation systems.

A hundred societies would be organised by January 15, at least 1,000 societies by April and all by the end of next financial year.

The exercise would entail an expenditure of Rs 140 crore for the Government.
