Asegaon tense over desecration of statue

AURANGABAD: Tension prevailed in Asegaon village of Gangapur taluka of this district following desecration of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar’s statue yesterday. According to police sources, a woman Sanita Thorat who lives in Buddha locality of the village noticed the desecration early in the morning yesterday. Tension gripped the locality when the news spread and soon a mob gathered at the spot demanding immediate action against the culprits.

Narmada submerges 3 more districts

BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh Government has sought Rs 75 crore Central assistance for providing immediate relief in flood-hit areas as the swollen Narmada submerged parts of three moredistricts while the situation remained grim in five other districts of the state. Civic authorities, assisted by Army, continued round the clock rescue and relief operations.

IAF fighter jet crashes; no casualties

NEW DELHI: An Indian Air Force (IAF) jet fighter Jaguar crashed at Gorakhpur in UP this morning, official sources said here. The jet was on a routine training flight, the sources said adding the pilot bailed out safely and there was no casualty on the ground.

Delhi bureaucrats shifted

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government today effected a minor reshuffle posting five officials on new assignments. J P Mishra and A K Singh, awaiting postings on their repatriation from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, have been posted as assistant controller, weights and measures and sales tax officer respectively, an official release said.

Blast in Imphal marketplace

IMPHAL: At least six persons were injured when grenades were exploded at a crowded market complex and inside an office of theruling Manipur state Congress party (MSPC) at the heart of Imphal town today, official sources said. One grenade was exploded at the high security Imphal market complex in the afternoon injuring four persons.

20 feared drowned in Sonar river

SAGAR (MP): At least 20 people were feared drowned in Sonar river in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh after their boat overturned today. Further details were awaited, police said.
