State highways to be widened

Road connectivity is expected to see some improvement in the state with the Haryana Public Works Department B038;R all set to start the widening and strengthening of at least five routes on the state highways 20 and 15A. The project would take one and a half year to complete at an estimated cost of Rs 240.45 crore

8220;The decision was taken after the observation of heavy traffic on these routes,8221; said P S Singla, managing director, PWD B038;R. Besides the roads, all the bridges and culverts that fall on the routes would also be widened and strengthened, he added.

Sandeep Goyal, manager, PWD B038;R, said, 8220;The project includes five different routes on the state highways 20 and 15A. While the cost of widening and strengthening of the Murthal-Sonepat route is around Rs 27.62 crore, the cost of Sampla-Jhajjar route and Sonepat-Khakhoda-Sampla route is Rs 33.99 crores and Rs 54.06 crore, respectively. The work of shifting of the electricity poles and lines has already started and is expected to get completed soon.8221;

Goyal also added that as some portion of the forest land is also part of the project, the PWD department has applied for clearance from the Forest Department, which is expected soon. 8220;While there would be number of trees that would be cut for the project, the exact number cannot be estimated right now. It has been long since the forest department was asked for the clearance and the go-ahead is expected anytime now,8221; added Goyal.
