Willie Hetaraka,
India rugby coach

What are you reading currently?
‘Women of the Raj’ by Margaret Macmillan. It describes the lives of British ladies during the Raj, but the most striking aspect is that the Indian ladies come across as very tough individuals
The one athlete you’d pay to watch?
Michael Jordan, because he epitomises an athlete and legend who could come back from all setbacks in his life and still stay the best.
Your favourite superstition?
At all big games, I sip Powerade or something during timeouts, as though I am playing myself. If I can imagine I’m there, I can make the tough calls well.
Your most embarrassing moment?
As a young cop in New Zealand, I had to inform a lady that her daughter was killed in an accident and take her to identify the body. But we’d reached the wrong address, so when the lady realised it wasn’t her daughter and yelped in joy, I wish I had shrunk and disappeared at that moment…
If you weren’t a rugby coach you’d have been…
A cricketer and tormented the Indians! Or, a tourist guide taking people around to the best ice-cream places in Auckland.

Tim Henman’s made a few jokes — he’s mentioned the cricket a few times. I still think we’ll find a way to win that fifth Test
