8226; Sonia Gandhi has without doubt killed more than two birds with one stone. In the article 8216;Sonia, the inner voice and Gandhi8217; IE, May 24 Rajmohan Gandhi8217;s contention is that her decision was more a proof of her wisdom than her nobility. I agree with him. However, isn8217;t wisdom a prized attribute, especially among politicians? If she were only noble and not wise, she still would have been made a victim of paranoia.

Hierarchy of protests
8226; It is sickening to see the BJP stoop so low 8216;Back home, troubled times await Uma8217;, IE, May 24. They should learn to rise above mediocre protests. India is a democracy and whatever the people vote should be respected 8212; the vote should not be contested to divide the country.
These politicians should come together and build a better India. Controlling the population explosion, improving education and fostering optimism and a sense of ownership for India, these should be the objectives before our leaders.

What about NRIs?
8226; Uma Bharati8217;s objection to Sonia Gandhi becoming the prime minister of India is a blow to all non-resident Indians. By the Madhya Pradesh chief minister8217;s logic, our children growing up outside India should not have any political role in their adopted countries. Uma8217;s logic also means that people of Indian origin should not have led countries like Fiji and Guyana. It is a pity that Atal Bihari Vajpayee has kept quiet on this subject.

Case histories
8226; It is a matter of sheer lust for power 8216;Bihar timebombs have begun to tick8217;, IE, May 23. Or how else can the United Progressive Alliance explain the inclusion of persons like Taslimuddin and Laloo Prasad Yadav in the Union council of ministers? After all, they have criminal cases pending against them.

Regional imbalance
8226; The Manmohan Singh ministry has not given a balanced representation to all the regions. They seem to have forgotten the basic principle of democracy that the elected government represents the entire population, not just those who have voted for it.
Whereas states like Tamil Nadu and Bihar have got the lion8217;s share of ministries, neighbouring states of Kerala, Orissa, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh have got a raw deal. Is this the Congress8217;s way of taking revenge on those states which did not vote for the party or its allies? This does not augur well for democracy.

Crimes in Iraq
8226; The photographs published of activities in Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq continue to disturb. This exposes the hypocrisy behind the United States8217; decision to invade Iraq. These instances of torture of prisoners must be treated as crimes against humanity.
