HYDERABAD, June 26: Congress president Sonia Gandhi today blamed the Naidu Government for failing to provide adequate security to people during the recent communal riots in the Old City.

8220;People are still feeling unsafe here. There has to be more police presence in the area to build up confidence among the residents,8221; Sonia told mediapersons during her visit to the city.

The Congress president also alleged that the promised help from the State Government to the victims of communal violence had not reached them yet.

During her one-and-a-half hour visit to Haribowli, Sultanshahi and Moghulpura localities, Sonia inspected the damage caused to places of worship and met victims of arson, looting and police firing.

Police and the Special Protection Group SPG following her convoy were caught off the guard when she disembarked twice from her bullet-proof car to meet the victims.

All through the drive from Haribowli to Moghulpura, enthusiastic school children lined up the road waving tri-colour flags anddisplaying placards calling for communal amity and peace.

She also inspected camps for the riot-affected organised by the Congress minority wing and received representations.

PCC president Y S Rajasekhar Reddy and CLP leader P Janardhan Reddy accompanied her.

Police made elaborate security arrangements for her visit and posted RAF personnel at vantage points. A car fitted with an electronic jammer to deactivate remote control devices also followed her convoy.
