
Abhay records fastest win in third round
Top seed Abhay Karnataki Fergusson College maintained his position on the leader-board, with a quick 20-move win over Nowrosjee Wadia8217;s Trivikaran Pujar in the third-round of the PCZSC Inter-Collegiate chess tournament at Vidya Bhavan School.
Abhay with white, who has the highest Elo rating 2270 in this tournament, gained a strong Queen side position in the fourth move itself employing Qc2 variation after opening with the Queen8217;s pawn. Trivikaran confused over tackling the sharp attack made tactical blunders and resigned after 20 moves.

Nashik win
Nashik eves reigned supreme with an all win record in the divisional-level kabaddi tournament at the Pune University ground here today.
In their last league encounter, Nashik proved a superior opponent to Pune City to win 54-39. Brilliant all-round play by Rajani Patil, Gayatri Kulkarni, captain Anuradha Duandgaokar, and Pallavi Shejwal paved way for the Nashik win.
The winners had earlier got the better of Pune District and Ahmednagar respectively in the four-team league. Pune City finished runners-up with two wins to their credit.
Sneha to lead
Sneha Chavan has been named skipper of the Maharashtra under-15 women8217;s team dor the XVIII Junior National cricket tournament to be held at Kurnool, in Andhra Pradesh from September 25 to October 2.
The tournament will witness 16 State teams battle it out for the championship.

HHCP triumph
HHCP eves had no difficulty whatsoever as they posted an easy 15-3, 15-11 win over Jijamata Vidyalaya in the final of the under-17 section in the PDMGSC volleyball tourney at the Chandrashekhar Agashe College of Physical Education CACPE.
The winners were well represented by Guravi Kulkarni and Suradhe Kulkarni who blocked and spiked well, for the losers Sarika Marne excelled. In the semis Jijamata beat Abhinav Vidyalaya Eng 15-6, 15-0, while HHCP downed Renuka Swaroop 15-6, 15-6.
