
Ramu Saliwaty passes away
Ramu Saliwaty, veteran scribe and former sports correspondent of The Statesman, died here this morning following a massive heart attack. He was 62. Saliwaty began his journalistic career with The Indian Express before shifting to The Statesman in Calcutta in 1967 where he worked as a sports scribe for nearly 30 years.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd BPCL will host the 19th Petroleum Sports Control Board PSCB Inter Unit Table Tennis Championships at Navi Mumbai Sports Association, Vashi, from today.
The championships will be open to bonafide employees from the PSEB organisations that include IOC, HPCL, EIL, IBP, OIL, BRPL, CRL and IPCL along with BPCL. Individual competition will be run on the first three days for men and women. This will be followed by the team championships.
Individual competition will commence at 10.00 a.m. each day with the team championship matches scheduled for a 2.00 p.m. start. Prizes will be given away atTrombay Club, Chembur on Jan 22.
