Things are getting more risky and hazardous by day when Mohun Bagan are involved in a football match. Blame it on a section of Bagan fans who are pushing their limit too far, both in victory and defeat.
Today after the derby, they allegedly roughed up two East Bengal players, Edmilson Marques and Mehtab Hossain. The players were returning on a bike from the Yuba Bharati Krirangan. They were booed and taunted by some Bagan supporters who were on a matador. There was an altercation and reportedly a fight on the EM Bypass near Ruby Hospital. Supporters, who outnumbered the East Bengal duo, allegedly manhandled the latter. Dipankar Roy, who was also there, rescued his team-mates.
8220;We will hear from the players about the whole incident tomorrow morning and will decide our future course of action,8221; East Bengal official Debabrata Sarkar told The Indian Express.
Earlier, Chirag United coach Subrata Bhattacharya was at the receiving end as irate fans turned the heat on him after their CFL match a few weeks ago.
Then, after the match against George Telegraph last Tuesday, Bagan fans gate-crashed into the club ground to celebrate, putting the players in a real spot of bother.
Meanwhile, East Bengal have set sights on India team assistant coach Stanley Rozario as Manoranjan Bhattacharya8217;s replacement. The latter has all but taken a final decision to quit the job. Sarkar, however, said that they would consider an alternative only after Bhattacharya put in his papers.
