Sensex ends flat in volatile trade

The stock markets ended flat on Wednesday with the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex settling the day lower by nearly three points, after witnessing a new intra-day peak.

The Sensex, after touching an intra-day high of 21,113.13 points, rolled back to end 3.55 points lower at 20.869.78 over its previous close. The index also touched the day8217;s low of 20,701.49 points.

Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty closed lower by 15.85 points at 6,272.00, after touching the day8217;s high of 6,338.30 points and a low of 6,231.25.

The market remained volatile on brisk trading activity by buyers and sellers.
