A district court of Chandigarh has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the murder of a youth in Vikas Nagar, Mauli Jagran, two years ago.
The Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Ashwani Kumar sentenced Ajay, alias Bhanja, to life imprisonment in the murder case of Sanjay Yadav, who was stabbed to death in a park in Vikas Nagar.
While Ajay was convicted, co-accused Mukesh and Satpal were acquitted due to lack of sufficient evidence. The court observed that the prosecution could not establish their involvement beyond doubt.
According to the police, bloodstains were found on Ajay’s clothes and on the knife used in the crime. These samples were sent for forensic examination. The DNA report confirmed that the blood matched that of the victim.
According to the complaint filed by Preeti Yadav, wife of Sanjay, the incident occurred on January 1, 2024. The family lived in Vikas Nagar, Mauli Jagran, along with their one-year-old daughter. Sanjay worked as a plumber.
Preeti stated that on the day of the incident, Sanjay had gone out to buy vegetables when he received a phone call. The caller asked him to meet urgently. After returning home, Sanjay informed his wife about the call. Around 8.10 pm, he left the house to meet the caller but did not return late into the night.
After waiting the entire night, Preeti, along with her brother-in-law Mohit, went out in search of Sanjay. At around 4.30 am, they received information about a stabbing incident near Vikas Nagar Park. Upon reaching the spot, they learned that Sanjay had been stabbed to death.
Preeti alleged that Ajay murdered her husband due to personal enmity. She claimed that Ajay and his associates attacked Sanjay with a knife, leading to his death.
During the trial, the defence counsel argued that the accused were falsely implicated in the case. The court however, after examining all evidence and witness testimonies, held Ajay guilty of murder and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The court observed that the DNA evidence conclusively proved Ajay’s involvement in the crime.
