Sai wins ITF Masters

Jayalakshmy, after reaching the final in Mumbai, had been struggling to find her usual form. She picked up at the right moment on grasscourts here after all the three leg winners were eliminated before the semfinal stage.

Jayalakshmy, who last year won two legs before Shruti Dhawan beat her in Masters, in Delhi, cashed in on several unforced errors by Archana.

Archana, who beat Janaki Krishnamoorthy in the semfinal yesterday, fought gallantly in the second set before losing it 7-5. The first set was an easy affair for Jayalakshmy, who never allowed Archana any leeway.

The winner pocketed all important five WTA computer pointsbesides $ 800 (approx Rs 34,000) prize money. Archana, the runner-up settled for four points and $ 500 (approx Rs 21,000).

In the doubles final, Sai-Rushmi Chakraborthi pair, who made hattrick winning all the three legs– in Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi– conceded their match to Shruti Dhawan-Sheetal Gautham duo.

Anandkumar, Nandita win

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A R Anandkumar of Andhra Pradesh and Nandita Chandrasekhar of Tamil Nadu won the under-16 boys and girls titles in the AITA-Adidas Junior Zonal Tennis Tournament, which concluded at the Thiruvananthapuram Tennis Club here today.

In the boys under-14, M V Abhay Prakash of Karnataka claimed the title, while in the girls section, Sandra Sasidharan of Kerala won top honours.

In the boys under-16 final, top-seeded A R Anandkumar defeated second seed Jaco T Mathew of Tamil Nadu in a hard fought match 7-6(0), 4-6, 7-5. In the girls section, top seed Nandita Chandrasekhar got the better of her state mate and second seed Samrita Sekar 7-5, 6-3.

Inthe under 14 boys section, second seed M V Abhay Prakash of Karnataka defeated top seed V Vignesh of Andhra 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 and top seed Saranya Pattabi (Tamil Nadu) lost to fourth seed Sandra Sasidharan of Kerala in the girls section 1-6, 3-6.

Amanjot prevails

NEW DELHI: Top sub-junior Sania Mirza of Andhra Pradesh clinched a fine double, winning the title in girls under-16 and under-14 sections while second seed Amanjot Singh of Punjab stunned top seed C S Mohanty of Delhi to clinch the boys under-16 title in the north zone AITA Junior Tennis Circuit here today.

Sania, top-seeded in both sections, scored contrasting wins over Ankita Bhambri in both the finals at the DLTA courts here today.

She cantered to a 6-4, 6-2 win over Bhambri in the u-16 final but lost the first set of the other final before recovering to win 6-7 (3), 6-0, 6-4.

Amanjot faced a tough fight from Mohanty in the first set which went to the tie-breaker. He won 7-6 (3), 6-3.

In boys under-14 finals, fifth-seed TusharLiberhan (Chandigarh) dismissed second seed Wrik Ganguly of Delhi 6-0, 6-1.
