Copa Cabana8217;s second anniversary bash may have been held on a Sunday night, but the place was so packed that everyone decided that the bar needs to buy the place next door. All its regulars turned up to congratulate A D Singh and Anupam, the men behind Copa, one of the city8217;s most popular watering holes. By 11 pm, the place was so jammed that there was no room left to even put a drink down, let alone shake a leg. But all of Copa8217;s regulars did not seem to mind do they ever? It seems that since most of South Mumbai never has reason to board a crowded local, they go to bars where they can simulate that experience. Among those jostling shoulders were Gautam Kapoor, Vikram Chandra, Sumeet Chopra, Sheldon Austin, Twinkle Khanna yes, she came all the way from the suburbs and Rocky S. Marc Robinson even flew back from Goa to attend this bash. But even anniversary celebrations could not bend the rules. At midnight, Copa downed its shutters. Rules, after all, are rules!

This year8217;s party season ended on a high note last week. Yes, after Anuradha and Anand Mahindra8217;s annual do, we officially close the party register 8212; nothing can top the bash that took place on the beautiful Mahindra Towers terrace in Worli on Friday. This year the dress code was Moody Blues8217; and most of the invitees stayed true to blue when it came to painting the town red. The hostess looked chic in an electric blue tunic worn with pants and polished her look by wearing blue contact lenses and blue nail polish. Her husband stretched the dress code a little and wore a blue-black jacket.

Others took the dress code a little too seriously. Like Channel V veejay Sophiya Haque and her two sisters. They were draped in some sort of identical net and tinsel material 8212; from head yes, different types of turbans to toe. Their outfits may have been long but the fact that they were completely transparent, allowed everyone to see that the sisters had even worn identical underwear. Model-veejayMeghana Reddy seemed to have come straight off the beach. She wore a turquoise bikini top and transparent again! white drawstring pyjamas. The crowd was an eclectic mix of the city8217;s most beautiful people. Parmeshwar Godrej was there, shaking a leg with husband Adi. A very pregnant Tanya Godrej-Dubash was slightly more sedate. Tina Ambani, wearing a very short turquoise miniskirt, was spotted chatting with a rather trim Poonam Dhillon. Rita Dhody, Gita Piramal with her daughters, Aparna and Radhika, Hasina and Tony Jethmalani, Queenie and Raja Dhody, Aarti and Kailash Surendranath, Tara Deshpande, Madhu Sapre, Mehr Jesia and Arjun Rampal, Sangeeta Chopra and Tarun Raghavan, Sheetal Malhar and Gautam Kapoor 8212; were some of the celebs spotted there. Wait! The list continues 8212; Sumeet Chopra, Atul Kasbekar, Hemant Trevedi, Arjun Khanna, Laila and Ricky Lamba, Anish and Vineeta Trivedi, Behram and Farzana Contractor, Imtiaz and Anil Dharker were also there. Essentially, just name the who8217;s who and they werethere. The party rocked until the wee hours of the morning. And the food, music and blue margeritas went down very well with the guests.

Stars sweat
With a name like IDEA, it comes as no surprise that this fitness centre is always the hub of great ideas. So, when the occasion was the fifth anniversary of their first outlet in Santa Cruz, Sunita Kapoor and Anita Shivdasani pulled out all stops and had a really novel celebration. They decided to make people sweat and really pay for it. All day on Saturday, they held sponsored exercise classes, where for as little as Rs 50 for half an hour, any fitness enthusiast could walk in and work-out. With all the proceeds going straight to the Cancer Patients8217; Aid Association, the film stars really came out and supported the cause. Stars like Zeenat Aman were spotted doing the step class. The ever-elusive Sridevi, looking slimmer than ever, also made an appearance. Though she did not work-out, Sridevi watched the bhangra class with great enthusiasm. Neelam andMaheep with her wedding mehendi still on also showed up. Sunita, who is the wife of film star Anil Kapoor, also joined in the step class. While she may be responsible for the starry connection, other IDEA regulars sent flowers and turned up in droves to congratulate the duo. All day, the centre was buzzing with activity and enthusiasm. After the strenuous work-out, all the participants were encouraged to binge on low-cal food therefore the spread consisted of healthy pasta salads, low-fat cakes, fruit punch mercifully laced and some bubbly.

It has been a week now but tongues are still wagging about the sad demise of Jaideep Garware. Rumours, malicious stories and first-hand reliable8217; information has flooded the gossip circuit.
