Railway workers plan protest

May 8: Samyukta Kamgar Sangharsh Manch SKSM, joint committee of Central Railway Mazdoor Sangh and National Railway Mazdoor Union has decided to launch an agitation against the various anti-labour policies of railway administration. A mass protest demonstration will be staged before the Central Railway general manager8217;s office on May 8. over 10,000 railway workers in the city will be participating in the protest, says a SKSM release.

Simultaneously, such demonstrations will be staged before the divisional railway managers of Bhusawals, Bhopal, Jhansi, Nagpur, Solapur and Jawalpur. Their main demands are to fill up vacancies and stop surrendering the posts, additional manpower for additional assets and to stop privatisation of many activities of railways. K V Vichare, General Secretary of CRMS says,quot;Due to these anti-labour policies the present workforce is forced to shoulder unbearably heavy work load and the plans of privatisation should be tackled immediately.quot; The demonstraters will be addressed by the leaders of both the SKSM and CRMS. A delegation will then meet the general manager and submit the memorandum, adds the release.
