BANGALORE: Prof C N R Rao, Insa-Albert-Einstein research professor at the Indian Institute of Science and president, Jawaharlal Nehru centre for advanced scientific research, here, has been awarded the centenary medal and lectureship by the Royal Society of Chemistry of London. Prof Rao is the first Indian to receive this honour.
IOC oil deal
ABU DHABI: Abu Dhabi National Oil and Indian Oil IOC are holding talks on a joint venture to build a 1.8 billion refinery in southern India. Bothcompanies would each hold 26 per cent of Nagapatinam refinery, on the Tamil Nadu coast.
Fire scam
CHENNAI: A special judge today framed charges against two suspended IPS officers and two others in a Rs 2.05 crore scam, relating to the purchase of fire-fighting equipment and appliances for the Tamil Nadu fire services.
Toddy clash
CALCUTTA: One person was killed and another seriously injured in a clash over taking first shot at the locally brewed toddy at Parshi church area here last night. Police said the incident occurred when one alchoholic jumped the queue and grabbed the drink. This was objected to by another who shot him dead on the spot.
