Renowned Bollywood singer B Praak, a Mohali resident and son of noted music director Varinder Bachan, has received a death threat allegedly from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, with a demand for Rs 10 crore as extortion money. The gang has issued a one-week ultimatum, warning of dire consequences if the demand is not met.
The threat was conveyed through a voice message sent by gangster Arju Bishnoi, an associate of the Lawrence gang, to B Praak’s close aide and Punjabi singer Dilnoor (Bablu).
In the voice message, the caller identifies himself and says “Arju Bishnoi bol raha hoon… B Praak ko keh dena Rs 10 crore de de. Ek hafte ka time hai. ‘Mill ke chalega toh theek’, nahi toh chahe kisi bhi country mein chala jaaye — Mitti Mein Mila Denge. Fake call mat samajhna.”
Following the threat, Dilnoor submitted a written complaint to the Mohali SSP, expressing concern over their safety.
In his complaint, Dilnoor stated, “After receiving this threat, I am unable to step out of my house. There is a real danger to my life and to my friend B Praak. We request immediate police protection and strict action against this gang.”
Based on the complaint, the Punjab Police’s Cyber Crime Branch, Mohali, has initiated an investigation. Police have also stepped up vigilance regarding B Praak’s security.
According to Dilnoor, on January 5 at 3:11 pm, he received two missed calls from a foreign number with the 44 code, which he did not answer. The next day, on January 6 at 2:24 pm, he received a call from Arju Bishnoi. Suspecting something amiss, he disconnected the call. Shortly thereafter, the threatening WhatsApp voice message demanding Rs 10 crore was received.
Dilnoor wrote to the police, “Due to our professional commitments, we frequently travel for shoots and live shows. This gang is extremely dangerous, and we fear for our lives. Our safety and property must be protected.”
B Praak is widely known for chart-topping and patriotic hits such as ‘Teri Mitti’, and has a massive fan following across the country. Police are now analysing the phone numbers, voice recordings and digital trail to identify and apprehend those involved.
SP (Investigation) Saurav Jindal said the matter was being taken seriously. “An FIR was registered under sections 308(4) and 351(3) of the BNS at Sohana police station today. We’re taking all necessary steps to ensure security and investigating all angles on priority.”
The case has once again raised concerns over the safety of high-profile artistes amid rising extortion threats in the region.
