Another Imam raps Govt on Rushdie issue

COIMBATORE: Union Home Minister L K Advani today rejected criticism of the Government for issuing a visa to India-born British writer Salman Rushdie to visit India in the face of criticism from yet another Muslim Imam, Fatehpuri Mufti Mohammed Mukarram Ahmed. Taking cue from Syed Bukhari of Delhi8217;s Jama Masjid, Shahi Imam of Fatehpuri Mufti Mohammed Mukarram Ahmed also charged in Lucknow that granting of visa to Rushdie was a conspiracy8217; against Indian Muslims and demanded that Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee order its immediate cancellation.
