
Maid needs surgery: NGO
PARIS: An anti-slavery group in France has said that an Indian maid who broke her vertebra and legs while in custody of French authorities needs to undergo a major surgery. Describing the condition of the maid of an Indian diplomat Lalita Oraon as 8220;really bad8221;, some members of the Committee against modern-day slavery, a French Non Governmental Organisation, said she is expected to undergo a nine-hour surgery on Monday.

UNITED NATIONS: India has signed the international convention for suppression of terrorist bombings and proposes to ratify it soon, which, when comes into force will enable the states to either prosecute or extradite those accused of terrorist bombings. India is the 47th state to sign the convention which has been so far ratified by only six nations. It needs ratification by 22 states to come into force.
Leader8217;s son freed
SRINAGAR: The 34-hour-long hostage drama involving the kidnapping of the seven-year-old son of aBharatiya Janata Party leader ended here Saturday evening when the boy was set free by his kidnappers after receiving a hefty sum as ransom. Asif was let off by the captors after he paid them Rs 2.50 lakh as ransom. Abdul Rehman Sheikh, the boy8217;s father, said Asif was in shock.
