Veerappan aides
CHENNAI: Five associates of notorious sandalwood smuggler Veerappan, including a woman who cooked for the gang, were arrested by the Special Task Force STF personnel of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka on Sunday at Arasanor village, 500 km from here, police said. They were identified as Kumbi, wife of Veerappan8217;s confidant Thupakki8217; Chittan, Mathayan, Krishnan, Jadayan and Suresh. Two country guns were seized fromthem.
Ghose murder
GUWAHATI: The CBI has announced a cash reward of Rs one lakh each for the arrests of the four ULFA militants suspected to be involved in the reported killing of social worker Sanjoy Ghose. The rewards would be given to those providing information leading the arrest of each of the ULFA activists. The accused were identified as Phatik Hatimota of Kamalabari in Majuli, Mridul Hazarika alias Bhaskar Baruah of Ratanpur, Anjan Borthakur alias Khirod Bhuyan and Prodip Baruah alias Rajib Das from Pokajara.

MUMBAI: The Central Railway cancelled services on the Harbour Line for three hours on Sunday when the engine of a Bandra local on the Up-track stalled at around 6.20 pm. The train first stalled between Wadala and Sewri stations and later at Reay Road station before being shunted off the track.
Technicians desptached from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus failed to revive the engine, railway police said. Services resumed at around 9.35 pm but were yet tonormalise by 11 pm. Up-country services remained unaffected.
