PCMT panel election
The BJP-Sena alliance today suffered a major political setback when two of its official candidates lost the election to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Transport Committee. While the Congress managed to bag five seats, the BJP rebel candidate Jagdish Shetty also emerged victorious.

BJP corporators voted in favour of Shetty instead of official party candidate Mahesh Kulkarni, who could not get a single vote. Sena candidate Suryakant Dalvi also lost the election although he secured 57 votes. The Congress candidates who won the election are Vishwas Gajarmal, Santosh Kudale, Baliram Jadhav, Muralidhar Dhage and Prakash Malshetty.

Vir elected
Gita Vir has been elected president of the National Society for Clean Cities for a term of three years. The other office bearers are Dr Sam Dalal, vice-president and treasurer, Dr Zainab Poonawala and Sheila Christian, vice-presidents, D V R Rao, secretary and Qaneez Sukhrani, joint secretary.

The organisation has decided to take up the issue of upliftment of areas marked as slums, greening of Pune, creating awareness about vermiculture and traffic problems.

Painting display
An exhibition of paintings by four young artists from Nagpur will be held at the Balgandharva Art Gallery from April 26 to 30. The artists are Rajesh Khadse, Milind Limbekar, Prashant Gadpawale and Gopal Betawar. The exhibition will be inaugurated by artist Pratap Mulik and actor Suryakant Mandhare.

Laxmi Sehgal to visit city
Veteran freedom fighter and chief of the women8217;s wing of Azad Hind Fauz Capt. Laxmi Sehgal will inaugurate the fourth State convention of the State unit of Janawadi Mahila Sanghatana at Kasturbai Hall in Shivajinagar on April 24. Over 400 delegates from 15 districts in the State are expected to attend the meet.

The convention will be addressed by Vrinda Karat, national secretary of the women8217;s organisation, and Ahilya Rangnekar, state president.

Children8217;s music festival
Kathabharati will organise a music festival for children at Bharat Natya Mandir on May 25 at 5 pm. Child artistes, below 16 years of age, can participate in the festival. The festival includes various programmes including classical, semi-classical and Sugam Sangeet Bhavgeet, Natyageet and Bhaktigeet. Winners will be awarded prizes. Co-operative conference
The Maharashtra Rajya Sahakari Sangh in association with the associations has organised a two day State-level co-operative conference at Nagpur from April 26.

The 31st State-level conference will be inaugurated by Sharad Pawar, leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and will be presided by Dr Jayprakash Mundada, State Cooperation minister.

The conference will focus on the problems faced by farmers8217; cooperative credit societies, urban cooperative societies, urban cooperative banks among others.
