PAN deadline extended
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the last date for filing applications in Form 49 A for allotment of Permanent Account Number (PAN) to August 31, 1998, a release issued by the Board said.

This the second time that the Board has extended the expiry date of submission of PAN application forms. It may be recalled that CDBT had earlier extended the last date for allotment of PAN for the assessment year 1997-98 to June 30, from April 30.

The decision of Board has come following tax payers and tax professionals demand for further extending the last date to submit the forms.

The Pune District School Non-teaching Federation will take out a protest march on Wednesday as part of the State-level body’s call for an indefinite strike. The Maharashtra State School Non-teaching Federation will launch an indefinite agitation to press for their long pending demands of time-bound promotions and uniform allowance.

A statement issued by president of the Pune district federation K R Vaishampayan said that the protest march will be taken out from Shaniwarwada and wind its way via Ganesh Road, Agharkar Vidyalaya, Rasta Peth High School, Zilla Parishad, Deputy director of Education’s office and culminate near the Director of Education’s office.

The Federation has long since been demanding time-bound promotions from October 1, 1994. They have also demanded uniform allowance on par with that of the government employees.
