
Truck overturns, driver killed
Truck driver Navnath Ramchandra Mane lost his life after the vehicle overturned near the Balewadi sports complex on the new Dehu Road-Katraj Road early on Sunday morning.
The mishap occurred at around 4.30 a.m. The cleaner, identified as Tanveer, and another passenger Dagadu Kisan Jadhav travelling in the truck were injured. According to the police, the truck driver tried to take a sharp diversion to prevent the vehicle from dashing against a tanker coming in the opposite direction. The truck driver, who was taking the vehicle to Mumbai, was driving on the wrong side of the road.
Pawar all the way in PCMC
Congress leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha Sharad Pawar on Sunday urged the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation PCMC to take more developmental projects in the newly merged village areas so that they get similar facilities as the urbanites.
Pawar was speaking at a function in Sangvi before inaugurating a host of developmental projects. Pawar inaugurated the shopping complex at Nigdi sector numbers 24 and 28, a badminton hall in sector 25 and laid foundation stones for the effluent treatment plant near Pimpri-Chinchwad link road, development of a tourist spot near Bhosari lake, water reservoir at Pimpalegurav and bridge between Pimpalegurav and Kasarwadi.
The municipal corporation, he said, should take special care in protecting the open spaces and prevent any encroachments taking place. Various sports facilities, parks, should be made available in the village areas, he added. Pawar said that facilities for all sections of the society should be provided. Projects such as the effluent treatment plant and development of green belts will help in better hygienic conditions, he said.
Plea to CM
A delegation of students led by Pune Vidyarthi Kriti Samiti made a representation to Chief Minister Manohar Joshi over the issue of age-limit to the competitive examination of police sub-inspector, conducted by Maharashtra Public Service Commission.
Vitthal Deokhile, president of Pune Vidyarthi Kriti Samiti along with MLAs Dileep Valse Patil and Ajit Pawar, requested Joshi to restore the earlier maximum age limit 30 years for general and 35 years for reserved category.
