CHANDIGARH, July 7: Faced with the spectre of colleges seeking affiliation from two different universities, Punjab University has decided to introduce the courses of Bachelor of Business Administration BBA and Bachelor of Computer Applications BCA from this academic session.

Many Punjab University colleges had sought affiliation for the introduction of BBA and BCA from the Punjab Technical University PTU since PU was not offering these courses. The situation of a college having affiliation from two different universities was debated in the Senate also, and the PU steering committee had recommended the introduction of these courses by Punjab University itself. Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, and Punjabi University, Patiala, already offer these courses.

The proposal of the steering committee has been approved and is expected to be sent to the PU Syndicate for ratification. The Dean, College Development Council, Dr Deepak Manmohan Singh, today confirmed that BBA and BCA courses are being introduced, subject to the approval of the Syndicate. The fee structure is likely to be formulated in a few days.

After approval by the Syndicate, the colleges will be invited to apply for grant of sanction of the courses.

According to university regulations, colleges are supposed to apply for affiliation by November, following which inspection teams are sent by the university. However, since the introduction of the course has been delayed, the university is expected to relax certain requirements. quot;Colleges which apply for grant of the course and which possess the basic infrastructure should be able to get sanction for introduction of the course, quot; Dr Deepak Manmohan added.
