CHANDIGARH, Oct 20: Punjab University, Chandigarh blanked Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala, 2-0 while Kurukshetra University, Kurushetra beat Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana by an identical scoreline in the women8217;s category on the fourth day of the North Zone Inter-University badminton championship being played at PU Indoor Hall.

In the PU-Patiala tie, the shuttlers from PU were far superior than the opponents in all the departments of the game. Pallavi gave a flying start to PU by scoring a facile 11-2, 11-1 win over Ruchi Vermani, who moved with leaden feet on the court.

In the doubles, Pallavi paired with Bhawna to post a 15-0, 15-0 win over Ruchi Vermani and Shweta to seal the fate of the Patiala team.

In the match between KUK and PAU, Ludhiana, as expected everthing went according to the script. KUK shuttler were never seriously challenged by their opponents who gave up tamely. In the first singles, Pratibha got the better of Sunanda of Ludhiana 11-5, 11-4 while in the doubles Pratibha and Himanshi defeated Sundanda and Bimi Singh 15-6, 15-8.

In another match Jammu University, Jammu beat Choudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut 2-0. Neetu Anand humbled Prabha Gautam 11-0, 11-1 in the first singles. In the doubles Neetu combined well with Sheetal to outclass Archna and Richa 15-4, 15-0.

In the men8217;s section, last year8217;s semifinalists are yet to open their account. All the four teams including defending champions Allahabad University, Allahabad and hosts PU play their first match tomorrow.

In the matches today, Punjabi University, Patiala defeated MJP Rohilkhand University, Bareilly 3-0 while CCS University, Meerut outplayed Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra by 3-0.

In another match Gurukul University, Hardwar beat Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala 3-1.

In the last match of the day, HNB Garhwal University, Srinagar Garhwal registered a 3-1 victory over Jammu University, Jammu.
