PU awaits PM146;s visit

The Panjab University authorities are still awaiting a confirmation from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for inaugurating the Diamond jubilee celebrations. Confirming the news, PM8217;s PU DRP Sanjeev Tewari said, 8220;We at the varsity are still awaiting the PM8217;s visit as he is an alumnus of the university. There is a heritage museum made especially to be unveiled by him. Also there is a book on the history of the university, which we want him to release. Many reminders have been sent to the PM office and are expecting a reply soon.8221;

Meanwhile, the Diamond Jubilee year celebrations that was to come to an end on October 1 has now been extended to October 17. The university had come up with several proposals including introducing facilities to make the university more disabled-friendly. It was decided that ramps would be put up in various departments but the same is yet to be implemented. The officials, however, maintain that the matter is being looked into and steps are being taken to provide better facilities and improve the infrastructure.
