Permanent manager likely for team

Come September, the Board of Control for Cricket in India is likely to appoint a full-fledged manager for the Indian cricket team.

Come September, the Board of Control for Cricket in India BCCI is likely to appoint a full-fledged manager for the Indian cricket team. Like the other support staff, the BCCI bigwigs are keen on having a full-time manager, who will be given a two-year contract and travel with the Indian team, informed a top BCCI official.

To get the nod from its state associations, the agenda of appointment of a fixed manager will be placed in front of BCCIs Annual General body meeting to be held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on September 19 and 20.

Having a full-time manager for specific periods is one area the BCCI is looking at. The matter will be placed in the AGM where views will be taken from our members. Like we have other support staff in the form of physio, masseur and others,we are planning to have a manager for a contracted period, the source said.

Earlier, the Indian board would appoint managers on a rotational basis, with state association members enjoying the luxury of traveling with the Indian team for a series or championship.

During the India vs England Test series, the BCCI sent Anirudh Chaudhary from Haryana while Shivlal Yadav of Hyderabad Cricket Association has traveled for the one-day series.

During Indias 2011 World Cup title run at home, the board had ensured they continued with former India player and national selector Ranjib Biswal for a year. It helped the Indian team gel well, sparing them the off-field hassles.

We dont want our players to keep bothering about whether their luggage has reached the room or not. Having a full-time manager will help, the official said.

However,it is still undecided whether the new manager will be paid annually or if it will be an honorary post. This is one thing we are yet to decide. Having a full-time manager, one cant expect him to do an honorary job. We will consult every member, the source added.
