accepted an early copy of Freedom,the new Jonathan Franzen novel but little did he know about the kind of panic this would set off in the publishing world. Booksellers handed him an advance readers copy or A.R.C.,in publishing lingo of Freedom,the hugely anticipated book whose release is embargoed until next Tuesday. Media organizations quickly reported that Obama had bought a copy,sending off alarm bells (and their modern counterparts,Google news alerts ) at Farrar,Straus & Giroux,Franzens publisher,whose spokesman,Jeff Seroy,quickly contacted reporters to correct the record. CBSnews.com updated its story,implying that the White House had provided incorrect information.

has withdrawn from a group that hands out trophies for animation achievement. For years Disney has privately groused about the Annie Awards ,presented by the Hollywood chapter of the International Animated Film Society . Among Disneys complaints: that the guild allows anyone to buy a membership (in contrast to most awards-bestowing organizations) and that rival DreamWorks Animation has too much power because it gives all of its employees complimentary membership to the guild.

It consists of 47 demo recordings that Dylan made from 1962 to 1964. Among the tracks that will appear on this two-CD release are early versions of future standards like Blowin in the Wind and The Times They Are A-Changin,as well as songs that have not been previously released in any version,like Guess Im Doing Fine,Long Ago,Far Away and Ballad for a Friend. Columbia will also release new vinyl versions of his first eight albums,taken from their original mono mixes.
