South Africa say no to visiting Pakistan

Karachi: South Africa has become the latest team to pull out of a scheduled Test tour to Pakistan because of security concerns. Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ejaz Butt confirmed that South Africa have expressed their inability to visit Pakistan in October-November this year to play three Tests and five one-dayers. “They have offered to instead host the series in South Africa as a ‘home’ series for Pakistan which means we will technically be the hosts,” Butt said.

‘India deserve No 1 spot’

New Delhi: India deserve to be the No. 1 Test side in the world but their stay at the top would depend on how they perform away from home,feels legendary New Zealand all-rounder Richard Hadlee. “The Indian cricket team is clearly the number one in the world. They deserve it due to some very good performances. The big challenge for the Indian team now is to perform outside the sub-continent,” Hadlee told reporters here on the sidelines of a seminar here.

Sachin visits Ashraful

Mirpur: Sachin Tendulkar and Harbhajan Singh took some time off to visit their IPL side Mumbai Indians’ team mate Mohammad Ashraful’s house here on Friday night. Tendulkar and Harbhajan spent around one hour at Ashraful’s house discussing cricket,including the IPL auction and their team’s prospects in the forthcoming T20 tournament starting on March 12.

Lee upset over attacks

Melbourne: The spate of attacks on Indians living here has saddened Australian pacer Brett Lee,who says people from India would always be welcome Down Under despite the recent happenings. “I just want to make it very clear to the Indian public that we as Australians love India the country but also love the Indian students and Indian people in general coming out to Australia and to let them know that they are so welcome,” Lee said.

Butt blames Modi

Karachi: PCB chairman Ejaz Butt has claimed that the decision by the IPL franchisees to snub Pakistan cricketers at the third IPL auction was a conspiracy to not allow them exposure before the Twenty20 World Cup that will be held in West Indies. Butt held IPL commissioner Lalit Modi responsible for the snub. “The fact is these people didn’t want our players to get practice and exposure before the World Cup which is being held after the IPL,” Butt told a TV channel. Asked whether he was blaming the Indian cricket board for the fiasco,Butt said: “I blame Lalit Modi because he gave us assurances and then ditched us.”
