PUNE, April 22: It was the second successive title for Prathamesh Mokal in less than 10 days. After a cakewalk victory in the Bhuddhibal Krida Trust8217;s Open Under-16 tournament on April 14, this time it was a bit of luck which favoured the Loyola student to clinch the late Arvind Paithankar Under-19 Open chess title too.

The 15-year-old Prathamesh collected 6.5 points after defeating his younger sister Amruta in the final round which concluded at the Nehru Stadium on April 21. However, he found himself sharing the top spot with Abhijit Patil and Abhay Karnataki. But the promising lad having an ELO rating of 2178 was adjudged the winner after the progressive points PP were applied. Prathamesh had 31 PP.

Abhijit Patil having 29 PP came second, while Karnataki was placed at third position with 27.5 PP.

Results Final round: Sandeep Gohad 6 lost to Abhay Karnataki 6.5; Prathamesh Mokal 6.5 bt Amruta Mokal 6; Mansasi Dadarkar 6 drew with Udayan Bapat 6; Mihir Naniwadekar 5 lost to Abhijit Patil 6.5; Tejas Thorat 5 drew with Krutika Nadig 5; Amogh Sarpotdar 5.5 bt Abhay Kadekar 4.5; Ashwini Kulkarni 5.5 bt Shridhar Dharne 4.5; Saurabh Ambekar 5.5 bt Ameya Ponkshe 4.5; Harshal Deshpande 4.5 lost to Eesha Karavde 5.5.
