
The identity of a person gunned down within an hour of the robbery at the residence of jewellery shop owner in Thakurganj is yet to be established.
The police maintain that the deceased was a member of the gang that had conducted the heist and the recovered items, including jewellery, were part of the loot.
The police are digging out the details of the miscreants involved in similar incidents. The burglary had taken place at the home of Om Prakash Aggarwal, owner of Khunkhunji jewellers, in the early hours of Wednesday. Aggarwal8217;s wife Usha Rani 65, who had tried to resist, was beaten up and she died later in hospital.
8220;While conducting searches near the house, we spotted some people, who on seeing us, began running away,8221; said K P Singh, in-charge, Thakurganj police station. 8220;When we asked them to stop, one of them fired at us. We were forced to retaliate and the man was killed.8221; He added that Aggarwal had identified the jewellery recovered from the deceased.
The police maintain that the incident was planned, as the miscreants were well aware of the layout of the house.
8220;We have evidence that they escaped by the rear entrance, but it is still not clear how they managed to enter,8221; said a senior officer attached with the Thakurganj police station.
Circle Officer, Chowk, Vinay Chandra said, 8220;We suspect that three to five persons were involved in the theft8221;. The statement of two watchmen and a domestic help has been recorded.
8220;They denied seeing any of the miscreants,8221; Chandra said, 8220;they claimed that on hearing some noise, one of the watchmen called up Om Prakash8217;s son8221;. The postmortem report of the person gunned down by the police states that death occurred due to fire arm injury, while Om Prakash8217;s wife died of a head injury.
