Senior Congress leader and party spokesman S. Jaipal Reddy today came down heavily on Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee for attending the swearing-in ceremony of Gujarat8217;s Narendra Modi Government.

8216;8216;The Prime Minister has lowered the image of the office by attending the swearing-in ceremony of a Chief Minister. This is a bad precedent. And it

shows how desperate the BJP is for electoral success,8217;8217; Reddy told mediapersons here.

Reacting to the BJP8217;s resolve to play the Hindutva card to replicate it8217;s Gujarat experience in other states going to poll next year, the Congress spokesman said: 8216;8216;What happened in Gujarat can8217;t be replicated.8217;8217;

Reddy also criticised the Sangh Parivar for expanding its list of divisive issues following which one of it8217;s affiliates tried to perform puja at the Qutub Minar.

8216;8216;This shows their irresponsibile attitude and blind fanaticism,8217;8217; he said. Questioning the silence maintained by NDA allies Chandrababu

Naidu, Naveen Patnaik and others on the so-called agenda of the alliance, he said: 8216;8216;They are leaders without ideological convictions, and are guided by compulsions of regional politics8221;.
