
MUMBAI, July 4: Pivotals generally remained steady today in absence of speculative support in view of end-account considerations. Share prices moved in a narrow range during the course of trading and most of the business were off squaring up in nature. The closing rates showed small changes. The volume of business remained moderate.
The BSE sensitive index opened at 4332.70, touched the day8217;s high of 4347.59, declined to the day8217;s low of 4300.58 and later closed at 4323.82, with a minor gain of 0.36 point over the previous close of 4323.46. The BSE-100 index moved up marginally by 1.74 points to 1854.57 against the previous close of 1852.83.
Share prices made further gains during the week with the Sensex rising by 190.08 points at 4323.82 as compared to 4133.74 on last Friday. However, the market has steadied on the last day of the settlement for squaring up positions.
The total turnover amounted to Rs 980.77 crore with Reliance notching up Rs 229.67 crore, Tisco Rs 147.77 crore, SBI Rs 146.09 crore, ITC Rs 132.03 crore and Telco Rs 44.29 crore.
Reliance lost Rs 6.25 at Rs 357.25, ITC Rs 8.75 at Rs 534.75 and Telco Rs 4.50 to Rs 442. While SBI improved by Rs 4 to Rs 350 and Tisco by 75 P to 218.75 on short covering.
However, Bajaj Auto eased by Rs 5.25 to Rs 932, Hindustan lever by Rs 23.50 to Rs 1371.75, ABB by Rs 8 to Rs 628, BPCL by Rs 5.25 to Rs 453, Century by Rs 20 to Rs 2115.75, Pond8217;s by Rs 11.50 to Rs 1833.50, SKF Bearing by Rs 67.75 to Rs 2500 and Thermax by Rs 10 to Rs 345 on profit-taking.
On the National Stock Exchange, share prices, in a narrow movement, rose marginally. The market trend could be seen in the NSE-50 index, which started higher at 1218.95 and rose further to 1222.60. Thereafter, it declined to 1209.45 and later closed at 1216.10, showing a small gain of 1.20. The Midcap also opened better at 1194.55 and hardened further to 1205.90. Later, it fell to 1188.40 and closed at 1205.20, revealing a good gain of 12.75. Today8217;s total turnover was Rs 1,818.68 crore.
