PATIALA, Sept 6: 8220;It was a fight fought on the strength of party workers and I am happy at the way my election campaign went,8221; sums up Parneet Kaur, Congress candidate from the Patiala parliamentary constituency and wife of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh.

In an interview with The Indian Express here today, she said that despite the late start to her election campaign, because of the delay in the finalisation of the party nominee, the campaign went very well.

8220;Within a short span of 15 days I was able to cover two-thirds of the constituency, while my family members, including my son Raninder Singh, daughter-in-law Reshma and daughter Jaiinder Kaur, covered all the villages in the constituency,8221; she said.

As for the participation of partymen in the campaign, Parneet Kaur said that most of the senior leaders in the constituency like Sant Ram Singla and Jasjit Singh Randhawa had cooperated with her.

Saying she was 8220;very satisfied8221; with the response of the electorate, Parneet Kaur added, 8220;Even in difficult areas we managed the campaign very well.8221; Though she did not elaborate as to which areas were difficult, she was obviously referring to certain Assembly segments which were earlier represented by former 8220;rebels8221; and who had been indifferent to her election campaign.

Parneet Kaur said she had fared the best in the Assembly segments of Patiala city, Ghanaur and Dakala, and done 8220;good8221; in Rajpura, Samana, Shutrana, and Lehragagga segments.

While regretting that the rains had prevented a better voter turnout in Patiala city, she said she expected the maximum lead from Patiala city, Dakala and Ghanaur, and a good lead from other segments.

Meanwhile, Prem Singh Chandumajra, two-time MP from Patiala and the All India Shiromani Akali Dal candidate, said that this time he did not have any problems from within the party. He said the party rank and file worked in a true team spirit during the campaign and that he was satisfied with the way it shaped up.

Talking to ENS, Chandumajra said he hoped to get unassailable leads from Sunam, Lehragagga, Shutrana, Samana, Dakala and Ghanaur, almost half of the total votes polled in Rajpura, but that the picture was not yet clear in the Banur Assembly segment.

He said his main rival was Congress nominee Parneet Kaur and was dismissive of Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Surjit Singh Rakhra.

Chandumajra said he had had the full support of all AISAD alliance partners, viz the Bahujan Samaj Party and the BKU, whose party workers had taken an active part in the campaign.

Shiromani Akali Dal Badal candidate Surjit Singh Rakhra said he was fully satisfied with his election campaign, having covered almost all the villages. He said he had been overwhelmed by the people8217;s response.

Rakhra was optimistic about leading in all the Assembly segments, adding that the maximum lead would come from Samana, followed by Shutrana.

He said he could not have done better in electioneering, receiving as he did full support from workers and leaders of the alliance partner, the BJP. The leaders and workers of his own party had worked in perfect coordination, which, he said, would be evident from the election result.
