NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 17: Though Lady Luck deserted the doubles pair of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi in the final of the World Doubles Championship in Bangalore, India will look ahead for yet another title as the Asia Cup begins on Tuesday.

As for Asia Cup, India have won the championship twice. They would like to make it thrice this time. Paes8217;s absence notwithstanding, the Indians will find this year8217;s tourney comparatively easier as the defending champions Uzbekistan are not coming. India will be wary of the strong Korean challenge. Thailand and China are the other teams in fray.

The glamour will come from the women8217;s section. This is the first time that ladies will be playing in the Cup. India, Indonesia, China and Thailand are the four teams competing in the women8217;s section.

In absence of the injured Nirupama Vaidyanathan, Manisha Malhotra, Sai Jayalakshmy, Rushmi Chakravarty and Shruti Dhawan have formed a team to take on the rest. Though India has the home advantage, Indonesians are also very strong contenders 8212; after all they have Wynne Prakusya and Yayuk Basuki in their line-up. China, on the other hand can boast of having Li Na, who is among the top ten Asian women players. The Thailand team consists of Suchanan Viratprasert, Orwan Lamangthong and Napaporn Tongsalee.

The draw will be held tomorrow. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited BSNL is the title sponsor of the event and Central Bank and Indian Oil Corporation are other major sponsors.
