Younger brother of Lucky Ali, and son of comedian-actor Mehmood, Makki Maqdoom Ali is also a star in his own right. Film buffs might recall the film, Kunwara baap, in which Makki played that pivotal role of a handicapped little boy. Few are aware, however, that Makki was actually born with his right hand completely dead.

Ironically, this inactivity has given rise to an album, titled Shaayad. But, Makki insists, he was always musically inclined like brother Lucky. Only, he didn8217;t land any opportunities earlier to pursue this interest. However, he reveals that R D Burman wanted him to learn the violin, quot;but since I could use only one hand it was almost impossible for me.quot;

Eventually, only last year Makki recorded an album written by lyricist Arif Dehlvi and Khalid. His numbers were heard by the honchos at Venus, and the music company agreed to market the album for him. Produced under the aegis of Makki Music Inc, a company the singer started in an effort to get his work moving, the theme of his album is suspicion. quot;In life, several relationships are destroyed because of it, and my own family is one such example. That8217;s what provoked me to use the subject as a theme,quot; Makki explains. Two videos were shot for the eight-track album, and Venus kept their promise. Shaayad is Makki8217;s first solo album, although viewers may remember singer Ram Shankar8217;s Yaaron sab dua karo number in whose video Makki featured some years ago.

The singer is hoping that at forty, fate has something new in store for him. Amen to that!
