Pop star Britney Spears has married a childhood friend during an apparently impromptu wedding ceremony on Saturday in Las Vegas, two published reports said. Spears married Jason Alexander at the Little White Wedding Chapel on the Las Vegas strip early on Saturday, according to online reports by the Las Vegas Review Journal newspaper and People magazine.

Both publications said Spears was walked down the aisle by a Palms Hotel bellman. Both Spears and Alexander are 22. People reported that the Grammy-nominated Spears wore jeans and a baseball cap for the ceremony.

But how tightly the knot was tied was not immediately clear. On Sunday People.com quoted a source close to Spears as saying the wedding was a joke that went too far and the singer was already planning an annulment.
