
PUNE, July 1: Nearly 2,000 school non-teaching employees from Pune city and district took out a protest march on Wednesday and threatened to intensify the agitation which could well affect the smooth functioning of schools.
The indefinite strike will also pose hardships to students wanting to verify their SSC results and procure other necessary documents for admission to Standard XI. Students appearing privately for SSC examination in March next year are expected to fill the forms on July 10 while students wanting to appear for the SSC examination in October this year have to fill up the forms by July 15.
However, due to the ongoing agitation, students will find it difficult to avail of the forms from the schools, K R Vaishampayan, President, Pune District School Non-teaching employees federation said. A statement issued today said that the non-teaching employees took out a protest march from Shaniwar Wada the State-level body8217;s call for an indefinite strike. The Maharashtra State School Non-teaching Federation has launched an indefinite agitation to press for their long pending demands of time-bound promotions and uniform allowance.
The striking lot submitted a memorandum of their demands to education officials at the Zilla Parishad and Directorate of Education. The federation will stage demonstrations from July 2 to 6 outside the district collectorate. The Federation has long since been demanding time-bound promotions from October 1, 1994. They have also demanded uniform allowance on par with that of the government employees. The federation has urged teachers not to carry out their duties.
